I was intrigued and excited to check Studio 8’s latest event out, as I’ve recently been visiting Mumbai for inspiration for my next exhibition - seeking out some Indian glitter and glamour. And Studio 8 has a fusion of Indian, Pakistani, Arabic and European couture fashion; just the combo I’m looking for.
I had already visited Studio 8 a few days before the event anyway because I accidently confused the dates (the scatty artist in me), so I was familiar with the venue, and when I arrived again last night, I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely and elegant Athar Sameer, who showed me around.
As I flick through my pics, I can visualize the opulence, colour and glamour that hits you as you enter Studio 8. First, you are greeted by a wall full of photos of the beautiful owner, Sarah Belhasa, attending shows and being shot with celebrities ranging from Tom Ford to Paris Hilton. And last night’s crowd did not disappoint – they were a colourful mix of Asia’s elite, and I found myself surrounded by long, blow-dried hair and dazzling jewellery.
Great! I reach the pic I’ve been looking for. It’s a shot of two friends - and they look super cool together. One is a highly groomed, sleek lady with great individual style, wearing a beautiful turquoise dress covered with oranges. Just then, as she turns sideways, I realize she is even cooler, as I discover she has a touch of rock ‘n’ roll on her arm in the form of an exquisite tattoo! Her friend is wearing a red dress and together their eye-catching colour scheme and orange nails, capture my imagination.
I recall the models walking around the shop too – all wearing the latest collection by JJ Valaya and gliding skillfully through the mass of clients, showing off his sumptuously intricate clothes.
Finally I reach the snap I’m going to ink. It’s of a line up with the owner of Studio 8 Sarah Rashid, the designer JJ Valaya with the models, and a couple of photographers almost falling over themselves to capture that perfect shot. It captures, the oozing glamour, colour and excited frenzy of the evening perfectly!
As I leave, I’m also given a wonderful goodie bag. I have to say, this new blog project just gets better and better!
Right, that’s enough chit-chat. It’s time to get those inks out… See you next time everyone!
