Live Wedding Painting at Syon Park, London

As a live event and wedding painter and illustrator, I was so excited to arrive at the exquisite Syon Park in London for Vivian and Jacob's beautiful wedding. It's one of those extraordinary venues where there is inspiration absolutely everywhere you look. We'd had quite a long creative journey together leading up to the day, so it was particularly lovely to finally meet them and see everything we'd talked about come to life.

The whole wedding was filled with soft pastel colours, which became the palette running through my live wedding painting. I started in the main house, surrounded by beautiful architecture, gardens and plants, with guests wandering through the little maze and drinking champagne. There seemed to be another detail I wanted to capture everywhere I turned.

Later we moved into the incredible conservatory - an enormous glass dome surrounded by wonderful plants - with desserts served in the cactus room. As a live event illustrator, I love creating a piece that captures far more than one moment. I wanted this painting to become a visual diary of the whole celebration.

I knitted together little scenes from throughout the day: Vivian and Jacob arriving as a married couple, cocktails and guests, the harpist, band and singer, and finally their first dance, with Vivian appearing again in her fabulous red evening dress.

By the end, the painting had become a collection of live event portraits, illustration and tiny memories, all woven together into one piece. The finished painting was unveiled to Vivian and Jacob and their guests that evening - always one of my favourite moments after a day of live event painting.
